I launched this Substack at the end of May with no plan whatsoever. I had been reading other writers who were using this platform and was enjoying it and the ability to so easily connect with the thoughts/feelings/words of those I respect.
Suddenly I was creating my site here and hitting the publish button with no intention other than to write. As soon as I did it, the fear set in. What the fuck was I thinking??? This is a fairly regular response to anything I do. I was going to say, “anything I do that goes beyond the confines of my regular existence”, but the truth is, it’s just pretty much always my knee-jerk response to any and every decision and action I take.
“What the fuck, Nora? What are you thinking? Who are YOU to claim the identity of writer?”, and so on. You get the picture. I’m a mess (not really, but, yeah, really, in the way that we all are messy).
About a week in, I set a goal for myself to achieve 500 subscribers in 6 months and soon after turned on the payment button as a way to both allow myself to receive support and hold myself accountable to those of you who are supporting me, whether you’re paying here or not, a certain kind of magic. Everything is a spell, at least in my world. Signs and faeries and magic and spells make this reality much more fun for me than a world without these things would be, and the more I put my attention on these aspects of this reality the more they have grown to the point where the magic is undeniable to me.
The rose geranium above was planted the same week I started this adventure. I did not intentionally tie the two together, this gorgeously fragrant plant and my Substack, yet the two have grown hand in hand.
In fact, my first full-length piece, published six months ago, was all about this rose geranium, how it came to me, and the magic of putting it into the ground. You can read it here:
Yesterday, I reached 500 subscribers (THANK YOU!!!!!), and my list continues to grow as does this rose geranium gifted to me by the flower farmers Alena and Danny at Night Heron Farm. Their tinctures are fabulous. I always have a few of their offerings on my desk and in my medicine cabinet.
If you’re new here, welcome!!!!!
I am writing on a variety of topics from spirituality to astrology to politics to life happenings to magic to our four-legged family members to my memoir to the process of writing and creative expression and more with the intention of sharing the journey of transformation that we are all on and how we (Jon and I) apply spiritual principles, healing, and magic to everyday life in a grounded and accessible way. You will also find transcribed excerpts of my channeled events here.
If you’re reading via email you can also head here, Operate From Joy Homepage, to find all of my previous content. Feel free to bookmark it.
You can subscribe for free or you can choose a paid subscription. Currently, all subscribers get all content whether you are free or paid, an Aquarian way of doing things. I also typically add a donate button to my posts if you’d like to support me without committing to a paid subscription.
My publishing rate is two to three articles a week which includes a Monday Morning/Weekly Check-In Post. I encourage you all to show up in the comments on that one and share how you are. It’s something I started on Facebook early on in the pandemic and have moved here. The social and community aspect of Substack is something I love the most about it.
I got together with my friend, John Burgos on his program Beyond the Ordinary Show this week and we had a wonderful time together as we always do. The replay is now available to watch or listen to here - Beyond the Ordinary Replay
I wish you all a wonderful weekend, send you my love, and will see you back here on Monday for my check-in post. Thank you again for your support and love.
If you’re not a paid subscriber to my Substack and would like to support my ad-free and independent writing, you can use the donate button here, or consider becoming a paid subscriber if you’re reading regularly and enjoying it. Every little bit helps.
All wonderful 💜💜💜💜
