We took our pack for a neighborhood walk on Saturday night, and I felt like we’d stepped into “Where the Wild Things Are” but without the cute and sweet and just with all of the, well, wild. Cars speeding the wrong way down one-way streets, fireworks faintly in the distance, and the air thick and heavy with heat, humidity, and the last Saturday of summer, the dogs pulled us here and there.
“Do you think they’ve had enough?” Jon asked as we reached the end of the block.
“Ummm, no, let’s keep going,” I said, even though the wild was getting wilder.
A block further as Sookie tried to take off after a rabbit, our neighborhood and backyard are populated with them, he said, “Yeah, I guess you were right.”
He and I were still recovering from a major discussion/clearing/fight (less fighting in this one and more intense processing). We took full advantage of the last day of Pluto residing in Aquarius for a few months and the eve of Uranus going retrograde. Seems like some things got sorted. After the drama of our lives being upended, moving halfway across the country, and the circumstances of each of my parents and my strained relationships with both being magnified over the past couple of months, I was waiting for a big blowup. As blowups go, this was less messy and more productive.
Yesterday, as the moon was heading into new (it’ll be exact today, September 2nd, in Virgo at 8:55pm Central Time), I grabbed my laptop and headed over to Charmers Cafe in Jarvis Square just a little over a mile east of where we live. During the pandemic, a section of Jarvis Avenue was closed down to traffic and converted into an outdoor eating space for the restaurants and cafes located there. Right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, it is exactly the outdoor cafe space to write in I had been imagining in Chicago. Everything else I’d seen up to this point was located on or right near a busy street and the traffic noise did not feel conducive to expressing myself.
At Charmers I was surrounded by trees and flowers and just the right amount of people, children, and dogs, so many dogs. I watched a boxer munching on a plant on the patio next to the one I was sitting in and met more than one puppy and friendly pooch. My need for interactions with others is fed in this space. As I looked to my right I could see the deep blue of Lake Michigan just a couple of blocks away.
Two weeks ago, I got obsessed with finding the perfect place to take the dogs so they could experience the lake. Montrose Dog Beach is the official dog beach in the city, but we were hung up waiting on a permit due to needing to track down some rabies vaccination information from California. I spent a good while looking for an alternative and it seemed that the closest place to have them off leash on Lake Michigan was going to be at least an hour's drive away if not more.
The next day I got a call from someone at our vet’s office telling me that their city of Chicago DFA (dog-friendly area) tags were ready to be picked up. When I went in there seemed to be a communication breakdown in house as they still did not have the info they needed to file our paperwork with the city. This prompted one of the women who works there to take it on herself and investigate it further. A few hours later she called me to let me know she’d sorted it for us and our dogs were good to go for off-leash play at the dog beach in the city along with now being able to go to all of the city dog parks.
We took them to the beach and all had a great time. The timing was perfect due to the few days of higher temperatures we were having here, and I marveled at the magical unfolding of it all. This is often how the manifestation of stated intentions goes for me. I do what I can on my end, taking it as far as I can in the moment at hand, and then the response arrives in some external way. A twelve-hour turnaround is fast (it can be months or even years sometimes), and the speed of this may be an indication of a collective acceleration underway.
The new moon energy is a great time for intention setting and spellcasting. Traditionally, it’s advised to wait until the moon is exact as up until that moment the energy is waning as opposed to new. Virgo governs house and home, our physical bodies and our external structures, and emphasizes the need to be of service to one another and the collective. Any intentions made during this moon regarding health, wealth, prosperity, and physical experience will be more powerful when factoring in the piece that serves the collective.
I am off for a day of play and relaxation along with a bit of housecleaning, an excellent activity to undertake as the moon wanes to new. I’ll be spending the week preparing for our Level II Channeling Class which starts on Saturday. There are still a few spots left and registration will close on Friday. Full details and the link to register are here on my site.

I had a conversation Thursday with a friend/mentor going back over my life and events with a concentration on migraine beginnings and healing. She has known me since 2012 and was clearly surprised at my life story and the amount of trauma, which I am sure she knew I hit only a summary of it. I think it was an opening since I was able to step back and look objectively at things I just accept as life and don’t worry about anymore. I think I will take a page from your book and write and get things on paper as a form of release. It also helped me realize my accomplishments as someone else looks at everything and voices to me how incredible it is that I persevered and accomplished so much and showed me my strengths. I will write those too.
I am loving the nicer weather and hope to do some walks at the nature preserves as it cools and the humidity lessens. The new moon happened as I was practicing channeling and I feel I opened up more and am that really helped move me forward.
Thanks for your article and beautiful photos. Love seeing the dogs so happy and glad they got all their paperwork settled so they can make new friends. Sending you all love! 💜
That cafe looks like the perfect community hang out. Happy for you that the dogs finally get access to all the parks. 💕
I’m exhausted. August was too busy but with lots of good things happening along with very stressful things. I’m ready for some easier softer energies. Hoping that happens soon. 🫠
