Helmut and I got together around Valentine day in 1996. I don't know which day, we've never been able to decide a date, so much chaos during those days. It's our anniversary, sort of. Well I don't care about celebrating, I am simply grateful, eternally grateful.
I love this story so much. I did something similar for our son's 3rd birthday. I was determined to make the perfect princess themed castle cake (our son is trans and we still thought he was our daughter back then), complete with specialty cake pan and fancy icing techniques I thought would be easy. I finally got the cake on the table at around 10 PM and served it to my very hungry husband, Mom, Aunt, and a very sleepy 3 year old. My husband later had a very gentle chat with me about perfectionism and trying to prove I was a good mom.
